Is there anyone out there who has found a good remedy for adult acne? I have been suffering from it since I was a teenager, and have tried every med from the dermatologist, but haven't found anything with that much success. I know it has to do with my hormones (I had great skin while I was pregnant!) so I have tried birth control pills, but there are way too many side effects! Has anyone found anything that works?? Thanks!!

What about proactive? My son tried it, and it didn't work so I had the whole line of it just sitting here. So when I get a mini breakout at that time of the month, I use it and it seems to work okay, not miraculously but okay. Have you tried the old hot washcloth and vicks trick? You dab some vicks on the pimple and then apply a washcloth with as hot water as you can stand and hold it on the pimple. Seems to get them to go through their life cycle faster. Also, for redness and swelling, use preparation H. Honestly, it does take the swelling away.

I have adult acne and I'm 24. In fact, I have inflamed acne which I am using two medications to treat. The rest of my skin looks great except for the inflamed bumps.

Because you say it has to do with your hormones, it might be a good idea to see a naturopathic doctor. They can help you with your diet to help balance hormones.

My suggestion: drink lots of water and keep a daily cleansing routine. Visit a beauty consultant who can help you identify your skin type so you pick the right cleansers for you. Also talk to your doctor about a low dose BCP or mini-pill.

There are lots of options and I'd love to hear some from others!

I use proactive!!  I used to be on a birth control that was for acne called Diane-35 it kept my face super clear... BUT I got pregnant while taking it (but I had been taking it for 6 years).  Proactive has worked really well for me ....but if I stop using it I go right back to breakouts.

I have breakouts usually just in my chin area. I've had perfect skin pretty much my whole life and now it seems like my face looks horrible. I think mine are from stress though. I also get red marks that don't go away after I've had a pimple (and I'm not picking at them). So, if anyone has a good remedy to get rid of those, it would be appreciated!  I just recently got proactiv and already had to quit using it because it dries my face out way too much (I already have very dry skin). I can't seem to find anything that works.

I've always had skin issues.  Now I cleanse with Cetaphil, and I use Paula's Choice products (buy them online at www.cosmeticscop.com/

I use the 2% beta hydroxy Acid Liquid after cleansing, then I use the Skin Balancing Antioxidant Mattifying Serum under my make-up.  I like the Blemish Fighting Solution when I have breakouts (which is now only around that time of the month).  I use her foundation, as well.

The great thing about Paula's Choice is that she offers sample sizes ... for an .80 investment, you can't really go wrong!

I have adult acne as well which I have had since I was 11years old.  I still use benozyl peroxide at night and salicylic acid in the morning.  Sometimes I skip a day or 2 with the benozyl peroxide since I have sensitive skin.  But if I don't use something with these 2 I definitely break out!

I suffered terrible acne as a teenager.  I used antibiotics from the dermatologist and some perscription topicals.  My face finally cleared up for a few years but after I had my last child my face has gone beserk.  Also I now have lots of little thick hair growing on my chin which is really anoying.  I went back to the dermatologist but nothing that used to work did any good.  I also have tried Pro-Active.  It worked okay for a while but then I became immune to it and the acne came back.  My derm. said that is quite common with Pro-Activ if your skin is too bad it won't work for long.  My only option now it seems is to take Acutane.  A very strong and sometimes dangerous drug with severe side effects.  I have been putting it off because when my brother used it as a teenager his face got so dry it looked like it was literally peeling off.  (Acutane shuts down your oil glands)  But he has not had a breakout in 10 years.  Unfortunatelly I come from a family with lots of acne and Acutane is the only thing that has worked for anyone in my family.  At least 5 family members have used it.  So I think that I will be heading off to the dermatologist again soon.  But be warned you absolutely cannot become pregnant when taking this medication or for at least one month after so it is only a last resort and requires lots of discussion with a dermatologist.

Dear KShorty,

I came across your post while searching the internet.  I wanted to let you know that I understand where you are coming from.  I am 28 years old and suffered from acne until about 6 years ago- I started using an acne product that used to be available in the store. I recommended it to my Sister who had amazing skin until she got pregnant then she was blessed with Rosacea- to say the least the product worked for her too.  I want to share my website with you and others I believe that these products will work for you.  We offer a 30 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied.  Please take a minute to check out my website and review the Continously Clear Line- You will be amazed at your results-  I still cant believe all the years I spent at a dermatologist and what I did to my insides taking all different medications.  I also suffer from PCOS and recently got off my other medication because my Husabnd and I are going to start to become pregnant and it carried sever side effects- to say the least I was very nervous that I would break out but yet again I am pleasantly surprised- my skin is still flawless....www.myseriesse.com\jackie

Proactive. But you have to use it twice a day for a few weeks before it starts to work properly. It is worth it though.
