Meet the Blogger

SigningMamaBadgeLevel 2
I am the mother of two amazing children, still struggling with the balance of demands and keeping in line with my parenting values. Having taught both my children sign language I now teach other parents how to utilize the wonders of baby sign language. I'm just beginning to experiment in the kitchen and build on our dozen or so stand by meals, and the pickiest of the bunch believe it or not is my husband. Scrapbooking is fun but I wonder when i will ever get the first year done for my first child let alone begin on the second! Every mother needs a playgroup, our neighborhood playgroup has been the cornerstone of our activities and my sanity! I'm big on attachment parenting, long term breastfeeding and tell every new parent to consider baby sign language as a tool in the toolbelt.

About this Blog

This blog will be dedicated to the experiences I've had with teaching my babies how to sign. I hope to inspire other parents to pick up this great tool for a greater bond with their baby.

When trying to get our children to drink enough water my husband found that adding ice to their sippy cup worked very well. Some people just prefer refreshing cold water, why should a toddler be any different? Realizing that I would need to keep up Read more...

Being that many parents rely on bath as part of their bedtime routine this is a great time to spend making eye contact and signing with your baby or toddler. "Bath" is simply signed with two closed fists in motion up and down on the chest Read more...

Most of us can probably say that our home is not 100% babyproofed. What I have found is that by taking the extra time to show the children that something is "dangerous" in sign language helped them realize that this is something they're Read more...

When Amberly was 10 months old she had her first playtime experience with a dog and it seemed appropriate to teach her the sign for dog with this novelty. (Simply patting your leg, as if calling a dog over to you). I had read that most babies go Read more...

I have to say it is just as fun and mind boggling to watch your second baby approach toddlerhood as the first. Granted, the first child has the one-to-one ratio and more details may be recorded, but what I've found that what I lack in recording the Read more...

Even though Kyle took longer to pick up signing back to us and has fewer signs at 11 months of age than Amberly did he displayed yesterday another great signing milestone.... he told me "finished" in the highchair and then made the Read more...

Hey Joann. It's nice to catch up with you eh? Well I think that it's amazing that Kyle is progressing so well. How are your sign classes going? Good I hope. Well, add me as a friend if you can!

We've all wondered this at one point or another, sometimes I feel like I wondered it more with my first baby being a high needs baby but this time around I lucked out with a laid back kiddo (thanks Kyle)! So, when he does cry I know there is Read more...

Kyle now loves the game of dropping something from his highchair and waiting for someone to return the item to him. It is a game many parents are familiar with, especially when you're out to dinner at a restaraunt and will do anything to keep your Read more...
